A Brief History

How the Band was formed

Quintessential North London rock band of the late 70s and early 80s, best known for its riff-meets-vocal rock and angry/sarky lyrics, Charlie became a cult favorite in the USA with their ‘glamour-girl’ album covers and excessively radio-friendly style.

Between 1976-83 Charlie became a staple of US FM radio, racking up radio and chart hits such as She Loves To Be In Love, Watching TV, Johnny Hold Back, Killer Cut, and It’s Inevitable.

Line-up changes saw many of the cream of British rock pass through Charlie’s hands, but writer and producer Terry Thomas (Foreigner, Bad Company, and beyond) started it all, and looks set to spearhead the band’s revival with a gritty new album (2009) featuring ex-Charlie members in occasional supporting roles.

Welcome to the gritty, tenacious, funny, and frequently chaotic life that was - and remains - Charlie.
